Farr Safer - Don't Slip Up!
Just a reminder that the enterprising students of Farr High School are importing and selling their famous Heel Cleats again this winter. For safety (and dignity) when conditions turn treacherous, you couldn't do better than invest in these high quality items; tested in the Scandinavian winter.

Farr High School at the Young Enterprise Final
| Farr Safer, with John Thurso MP, at the YE UK Final in the Savoy Hotel London |
Well, unfortunately, we won't be troubling the trophy cabinet at Farr High School this year (they're going to have to build another one soon anyway) but the three-day Young Enterprise UK Final was a spectacular success in many other ways. Our team, "Farr Safer" (see earlier articles) acquitted themselves remarkably well, made many friends from the other teams and gained several business contracts for their ongoing entrepreneurial activities.
The team travelled down to the rather nice Savoy Hotel in the school minibus (about 1400miles return) driven by Geordie and Kirsty - and the other heroes must be Linda Thomas (Highland & Moray Chair) and David Charnley (the very proud Link Teacher) who helped make everything happen, along with Ali Murray from Atlantic Marketing who coached the team in presentation skills.
However, most of the praise goes to Josh, Andrew, Hayley, Sam, Lucinda & Ritchie for being such fantastic amabassadors; not only for our area but for all of Scotland. I've never seen students work so hard at a presentation; using virtually every opportunity to practice delivering their message and vision to an always-interested audience of business people.
It wasn't all work though, the long days included a visit to HSBC's HQ in Docklands (42 Floors above the city), a meal at Jamie's Italian in Covent Garden (thanks to Highland Opportunity) and some "culture" in the form of "Mamma Mia" Some of the team took the opportunity to tour the Houses of Parliament courtesy of John Thurso MP.
The eventual winners were Summit Enterprises from London and we wish them every success at the European Final in Norway. We also pass on our thanks to the organising team at Young Enterprise UK; in particular the very hands-on Chief Executive, John May, for being such a brilliant Master of Ceremonies.

Farr High School have won the 2011 Scottish Final
You’ll no doubt be as pleased as me when I tell you that Farr High School has won the Overall Prize at the Young Enterprise Scottish Final at the ceremony which was held at Hampden Park earlier this evening.
The team “Farr Safer” also won “Best Report” and “Best Trade Stand” and will represent Scotland at the UK Final to be held at the Savoy Hotel, London on 12/13 July. This is the third year that FHS have reached the Scottish Final and the second year in which the school has won the top prize.
It’s been a long but exciting and rewarding day which also saw Linda Thomas of the Highland & Moray Board pick up an Award for her outstanding service to Young Enterprise Scotland.
I’m sure that we all wish the Team and Link Teacher, Dave Charnley, continuing success at the next stage of the competition.
There'll be pictures when we get them

Farr Safer - The European Dimension
Farr High School's Young Enterprise Scotland team, "Farr Safer", fresh from winning the Highland Area Trade Fair followed by the YES "Dragons' Den" event, are now off to Latvia to sell their range of safety equipment.
The Finnish-sourced safety heel cleats have been a real winner during this harsh winter including sales to AJG Parcels and other corporate customers.
"Farr Safer"also sell items such as safety triangles, hi-visibility vests and first aid kits, and the team are busy preparing display materials and presentaions for the trade fair and competition which will be held in Riga in March.
For more information, take a look at the Farr Safer website.

The Cycle of YES
No sooner have we packed off the 2009 Farr YES team to their respective universities, colleges and gainful employment, then the whole enjoyable package starts all over again.
Just back from a very breezy Bettyhill where I met this this year's batch of committed and enthusiastic students and they're just itching to take on the baton passed to them by the 2008 and 2009 winners.

Farewell "Off Our Rockers"
The members of "Off Our Rockers" held a dinner on Thursday night at the Ben Loyal Hotel, Tongue, to thank Link Teacher, David Charnley, for all of his efforts during their YES campaign. Coinciding with the Higher results, we took the opportunity of celebrating the students' own achievements as they look forward to the next stage of their education and careers.

Young Enterprise Scotland - Farr High School
I'm just back from the Scottish Final of the YES competition held at Hampden Park. As we saw in previous posts, Highland & Moray were represented by "Off Our Rockers" from Farr High School and were competing against 16 teams from across Scotland.
Although our team didn't win the overall prize, they did receive the Runner Up Award for their Report and won the SEPA Environmental Award.
The winners were "The Super Amazing Ginger Company" from Dumbarton Academy who will represent Scotland at the UK Final in July.
A great time was had by all and it was a fitting climax to months of hard work by the Farr team and their Link Teacher, David Charnley which saw them win top prize at the Highland Final and at the Trade Fair competition in Stratford It's been a memorable journey for us all and, hopefully, an experience that will stay with the team as they pursue their chosen careers.

Off Our Rockers - Farr High School
Here are the victorious and talented "Off Our Rockers" receiving their justly deserved trophies. Perched precariously on the (obviously pretty robust) rocking toys are Yours Truly, Stuart Black Highland Council's Director of Planning & Development, and Link Teacher, David Charnley.
The Young Enterprise Scotland Highland & Moray Final was recently held at the Newton Hotel, Nairn.
Congratulations to “Off Our Rockers”: Justine, Carly, Jess, David, George, Kirsty, Brogan & Malcolm (and Link Teacher, David Charnley who won the “Outstanding Achievement Award”).
Farr High School not only won the Overall Prize but also four subsidiary prizes. We wish them every success when they represent the Highlands & Moray at the Scottish Final in Glasgow on June 16th. For more info about the team have a look at their website : Link
The Final was a great evening with some amazing presentations from the 11 competing schools and I've really enjoyed my time as the team's business advisor.
